2008 SAVE-A-SAMPLE! BOX-A-THON IS OFF TO A RUNNING START
SpecSimple.com kicks off the 9th Annual Save-a-Sample! Box-a-thon, an exciting event to benefit New York area design schools. Running April 15-17, 2008, Save-a-Sample! creates a “second life” for design firm’s unused materials, such as fabrics, brochures and finish cards, all of which are eagerly utilized by students.
Hundreds of boxes brimming with materials are donated by some of New York's busiest design firms. Once the boxes are ready to ship, local furniture dealers (including Arenson Office Furnishings, Benhar Office Interiors, CFT, Empire Office, EvensonBest, G.O.E., WB Wood|NY and Meadows Office Furniture) will provide their transport to the recipient design schools. Students will then benefit throughout the year by having an enhanced set of resources at their disposal. In addition, with support from generous manufacturer sponsors, Save-a-Sample! raises money for resource library scholarships for each of the participating schools.
"The Save-a Sample! Box-a-Thon has been a real boon to our Interior Design students,” said Erin Cantor, Interior Design Chair of the Art Institute, NYC. “The samples have helped to keep the resource room up to date and full of surprises that allow the students to show their creativity. The scholarship has been great in allowing us to help students and order books and magazines."
Supported by AIA, ASID, IIDA, SMPS and USGBC, Save-a-Sample! raised over $10,000 in scholarships in 2007, which were distributed to the Art Institute, FIT, Kean College, NYIT, NYSIT, Parsons, Pratt and SVA.
