New York, NY. February 16, 2005 . . .
It's not your ordinary charity drive. SpecSimple.com's Annual Design Literature and Sample Box-a-Thon keeps design students in the "mix" by recycling cool finish samples from the "closets" of major design firms.
The biggest names in architecture and design: Butler Rogers Baskett, Fox & Fowle, IA, Perkins Eastman and many others will be rolling up their sleeves on March 15-17, packing up boxes filled with product literature and samples they no longer need. An army of furniture dealers (including BFI, CFI, Empire Office, GOE and WB Wood NY) will collect the boxes and deliver them to FIT, Pratt, SVA, The New York School of Interior Design, New York Institute of Technology and Kean College.
To cheer the designers on, Manufacturers, reps and others are invited to sponsor each box packed up starting at $25 a box. All money raised goes to scholarships for design students to help maintain their schools' libraries. This yearŐs scholarships will be awarded at the IIDA LeaderŐs Breakfast at Chelsea Piers.
Firms who collect the most money from their "Box-a-Thon" sponsors are eligible to win prizes. "The prizes are terrific," says Suzanne Swift, President of SpecSimple.com. "Humanscale, Intoto, Luxo, Metro and Vitra have donated some really great prizes to reward our top boxers."
"Today's design students are better prepared to be tomorrow's business leaders because of the support of SpecSimple.com," says Lovejoy Duryea, Chairman of the Interior Design Department at the School of Visual Arts. Ms. Duryea also praises SpecSimple.com's pioneering efforts, because their "scholarship sets a trend and raises the bar for the industry."
