New York's first Box-a-thon to Raise money for Design Schools
New York, NY. September 20, 2002 . . . . "We got the idea from a
Walk-a-thon," says Suzanne Swift, President of Info Edge, Inc &
SpecSimple.com. "The more you walk the more you earn. Only in our
case, it's the more you 'box.'"
Info Edge and SpecSimple.com's Fourth Annual Design Literature and
Sample Drive has a new twist this year. As usual, architecture and
design firms will be packing up boxes filled with literature and
samples. This year, they will sign up Manufacturers and their
representatives to sponsor each box they pack for $5 - $10 per
box. Supporting furniture dealers (Arenson, Empire, FCI, GOE
and WB Wood|NY) collect the boxes and deliver them to one of the
participating design schools. The funds raised are earmarked to
provide scholarships for design students to help maintain their
schools' libraries.
Firms who collect the most money from their "box-a-thon" sponsors
are eligible to win prizes. "The prizes are terrific," says Swift,
"Vitra, Humanscale, Steelcase and Lolah have donated some really
great furniture to reward our top 'boxers'."
Swift went on to explain that raising money and giving out prizes
is just the icing on the cake. The major thrust of the drive -- the
only one of its kind in the nation -- remains samples and
literature. "Today's design students are better prepared to be
tomorrow's business leaders because of the support of Info Edge,
Inc. and SpecSimple.com," says Lovejoy Duryea, Chairman of the
Interior Design Department at the School of Visual Arts. Ms. Duryea
also praises SpecSimple.com's pioneering efforts, because their
"scholarship sets a trend and raises the bar for the industry."
Interested manufacturers and their representatives should visit the
SpecSimple.com Web site to sign up.
This year's drive will be held October 15th through October 17th, 2002.
